Can I File I-485 With My Priority Date?

Last updated

Start with your row

To know whether you may be able to file I-485, you need three things: your preference category, your country of chargeability, and your priority date. Those three values point to one row and column in the Visa Bulletin.

Compare the date

If your priority date is earlier than the allowed cutoff date for your category and country, you may be able to move forward. If the row says Current, there is no cutoff for that month. If it says Unavailable, visas are not available in that category for that month.

Check the USCIS chart

Adjustment-of-status applicants must also check which chart USCIS allows for the month. DateCurrent helps you read the bulletin and track movement, but USCIS decides whether applicants can use Dates for Filing or Final Action Dates for I-485 filing.
